The data reached an all-time high of 20,802.215 Barrel/Day th in 2005 and a record low of 11,522.188 Barrel/Day th in 1965. For the United States, net consumption excludes the energy consumed by the generating units. For all other countries except the United States, total electric power consumption = total net electricity generation + electricity imports - electricity exports – electricity transmission and distribution losses. Total distillate fuel oil consumption in 2018 averaged about 4.15 million b/d, which was equal to 20% of total U.S. petroleum consumption. Hydrocarbon gas liquids (HGL) , the third most-used category of petroleum in the United States, include propane, ethane, butane, and other hydrocarbon gas liquids that are produced at natural gas processing plants and oil refineries.

World Oil Consumption measures the number of barrels that are consumed worldwide on an annual basis. It is an indicator released by BP. This metric tends to trend upwards except for a small dip in the 1980s and 2010. Interestingly enough, 2010 was also the time that Crude Oil prices plummeted because of supply and demand concerns.
